Unitarian Universalist Refugee and Immigrant Services and Education, Inc., a non-profit organization

Dedicated to Justice for Refugees and Immigrants

Have you heard these statistics before?

There are almost 200 million migrants worldwide.  There are 13 million refugees worldwide. They seek safety from persecution, torture, oppression, and poverty.  In 2006, only 41,000 of those were resettled as refugees in the United States and an additonal 25,000 were granted asylum.

How about these?

Over 75% of immigration to the United States is for family reunification.  There are about 10 to 12 million undocumented immigrants in the United States.  The majority of them came with visas.  They have mothers and fathers.  They have wives and husbands.  They have children ... daughters and sons.  They have brothers and sisters.  They have human rights.

They are largely unaware of the laws that protect them.  They need legal immigration assistance to be informed of and to understand their rights as they endure heartwrenching separations from their families.

This is where UURISE comes in!

Hope!  There is hope for a child to feel her father's arms around her again.  There is hope for the the husband to see his wife again.  There is hope for one who has suffered persecution to smile again.  There is hope for one who has endured torture to be safe again.  There is hope for a mother to embrace her son once again.   UURISE holds a flame of hope for those seeking justice.
